Solutions for Rough Feet

If you have rough feet, it can be very difficult to soothe them.  Rough feet are characterized by extreme dryness, and they can sometimes crack when they get too dry.  Dry feet can become very painful if you allow the condition to continue for too long.  Whether you’re on your feet all day or you just need to get rid of that winter itch that’s plaguing them, there are a few easy ways to soften them up.

The key to getting rid of rough feet is exfoliation.  There are many wonderful exfoliating products that are formulated specifically for dry, cracked feet.  If you have especially dry, rough feet, then you may find it helpful to use a pumice stone.  Just rub the stone on the bottom of your foot.  They can be used either right before a bath or right after a bath.  Pumice stones are gritty stones that are used to take dry skin off the feet.  They come in different shapes and forms.  Some are specifically made to be used on wet feet, while others work better on dry feet.  Use a pumice stone made for dry feet if you plan to use it before you get into the bath.

You may even want to use the pumice stone both before and after a bath to double the amount of dry skin you’re removing.  Just be sure to dry your feet thoroughly after the bath if you only have a pumice stone made for dry feet.  There are also several alternatives to the pumice stone available if you can’t find one.  Products like the PedEgg work very similarly to a pumice stone, and some people say they work even better.

Warm water will also work wonders on rough feet, especially after you exfoliate.  Start this step by soaking your rough feet in warm water.  A bath works nicely for this step, especially if you have soothing bath salts that are formulated for dry skin.  After your feet are nice and soft, you should then apply a special foot cream all over them.  Many pharmacies and bath stores carry foot cream that’ll work wonders on your rough feet.  After the foot cream, it’s important to apply a second layer of healing cream.  Vaseline works well, as do other healing balms available at the drug store.

Right after you rub the healing lotion on your foot, put thick socks on to lock in the moisture.  This works especially well if you’re going to bed after your foot care routine.  In most cases, you should be able to use your foot creams and pumice stones three times a week to keep your feet from becoming dry and cracked.  If you’re repairing feet that have already become rough, dry, cracked, and painful, you’ll have to do it all once a day until the symptoms are relieved.

Taking care of rough feet is an uphill battle, but it’s one that is easily won if you know how to repair them.
